SEX-EDit was founded by Kate Reddick, who saw a salient need for truly helpful sex education that isn't currently widely available at schools and beyond. The need for understanding why it’s important to interact with women on respectful footing, and to move away from misogyny which is accelerating at a worrying rate.
The ambition of SEX-EDit's campaign is not to blame or belittle men, nor to focus on women and what they need to do to feel safer. It's to work with men, and support them through navigating relationships and gender stereotypes in their everyday lives; whether that's with a woman they pass on the street, or their long-term partner.
The campaign hopes to give power to men in the right way through education - not the kind that’s pushy or overwhelming, or found in lengthy academic papers, but instead bite-sized, jargon-free, yet useful messages that can be easily read, watched, or listened to.
Gender stereotypes are powerful and have a firm grip on how men behave and treat women. We need men on our side to tackle gender inequality and violence as it can have a profound positive impact on society for everyone.
